SHORT STORIES : Pretty Girl

Pretty Girl, a poem by Xavier T
©1999 Andrew Thompson

a little girl, a pretty girl,
princess of the playground,
and in her dreams, come late at night,
she sees her castle in the air,
she sees her white knight on his steed,
she runs her fingers through the rainbows,
made of gold dust in the wind.

a teenage girl, a pretty girl,
blossoms with the springtime,
and in her dreams, come late at night,
she see's her palace in the sun,
she sees her sweet prince in the stream,
he fills her heart with longing,
and takes her in his arms.

a grown girl, a pretty girl,
prom queen of the summer,
and in her dreams, come late at night,
she seeks her palace 'til the dawn,
with every boy in any town,
if only he can promise,
to make her dreams come real.

a lonely girl, a pretty girl,
high priestess in the penthouse,
and in her dreams, come late at night,
she hears the door slam yet again,
scattered dollars on the bed,
she cups her face in tired hands,
and cries away her dreams.
